Abbey Tax 20 raises over £10,120!

In December 2016, Abbey Tax marked 20 years in business. In this time, the company has achieved a solid reputation for being the UK’s leading fee protection provider.

To celebrate this success and to recognise the anniversary, Abbey Tax decided to ‘give something back’ to the local community. Therefore, throughout 2017, we ran the Abbey Tax 20 initiative.

The aim was to undertake 20 charitable activities, raising money for a number of small charities local to our head office in Warwickshire – Hope4, New Directions, YoungMinds and Young Carers.

To start the ball rolling, in February Abbey Tax staff took part in a sponsored sleep out in Rugby. For one night, the team gained a little understanding of what homeless people experience during the winter months.

The remainder of the year saw a hive of activity, raising thousands of pounds for good causes. Here’s a reminder of just some of the things the team got up to.

Running, jumping, climbing, cycling…and turning yellow!

A Charity Golf Day at Sickleholme in the Hope Valley took place in mid-July.
Overall, more than £1,500 was raised, to be divided between the four charities.

On 20 July, the inaugural Abbey Tax cricket match was held at Newbold Cricket Ground.
The event generated £441 for New Directions.

On 24 July, Gabelle staff joined in the 5km Standard Chartered Great City Race in London.
A total of £200 was made for YoungMinds.

John Moxon, director of R&D tax services, successfully climbed Mt Elbrus in Russia in July/August.
Raising in excess of £400 for New Directions.

In August, a team took on the National Three Peaks Challenge in support of YoungMinds. The aim was to climb the highest peak in Scotland, England and Wales in a 24-hour period.
£498 was raised.

October took on a yellow hue as we joined in with our parent company Markel’s support for World Mental Health Day, helping YoungMinds and raising mental health awareness.
Various #HelloYellow activities brought in £221.

Staff from Abbey Tax, Rugby completed a 33-mile bike ride along Cannock Chase in October in aid of New Directions. £201 was raised as a result.

A quiz night in Rugby was hailed as a triumph and may even become an annual event.
This event made £386 for Hope4.

Abbey Tax 20 achieved a total of over £10,120 in 2017. With the help of Markel's charitable giving matching programme, this figure is set to rise even further.

This is an amazing achievement for all involved and we would like to thank our staff for getting behind Abbey Tax 20 so enthusistically, as well as their families and friends who offered such generous support and donations.
