Our History

Abbey Protection Group Ltd (APG) was founded in 1992 as a specialist insurance intermediary focussed on the underwriting and sale of legal and professional fees insurance to businesses. As the Group has expanded, it has developed a range of complementary legal and professional services for its clients. APG today has 200 staff operating from three locations and has gross sales in excess of £35m
Against a back-drop of red tape, bureaucracy and an increasingly litigious society, APG has developed a reputation for excellence of service and the ability to provide innovative, yet pragmatic solutions to the legal and taxation issues faced by the modern business.
APG has the following trading divisions with their own distinct brands:

Abbey Legal Protection (ALP) – the original trading Company, ALP is based in the City of London and is responsible for the underwriting and sale of the Group’s legal expenses insurance products through its designated distribution channels

Abbey Legal Services (ALS) – based in Croydon, ALS employs over sixty qualified lawyers and is responsible for the provision of legal advice (in excess of 250,000 calls a year) and related employment services to ALP clients.

Abbey Tax Protection (ATP) – based in Rugby, ATP is responsible for the underwriting and sale of the Group’s professional fees insurance products through its distribution network of accountants. It also provides tax, VAT and other related professional fees services to Group clients

After The Event Services (ATE) – operating out of Croydon, the ATE division is responsible for the management of The Law Society’s personal injury compensation scheme, Accident Line and other after the event insurance policies. The ATE division also manages the run-off, on behalf of underwriters, of various defunct Claims Management insurance schemes, such as Claims Direct and The Accident Group.

Abbey HR (AHR) – newly established, AHR is based in Rugby and is responsible for the promotion of the Group’s packaged HR services direct to businesses.
